Parkway HS Team - 15-9
After taking care of our bodies saturday night, we rolled back up Sunday ready to do our thing. Out first game was against the other HS team there, called Parkway. They had a U20 waitlist kid and some other ballers that could push us. Especially our newer rookies who have potential, but need to learn the game. We tried a backhand force to neutralize their best thrower, but we couldn't line up on the proper side of a defender downfield to save our life in backhand force(this is now being drilled into their heads at practice so it won't happen again). Fall growing pains, am I right? Our d line at times had 4 rooks+ out there, so this is all part of the natural progression. Despite this, we again win easily. In the post game, Pretty and I dogged on their energy, and it felt like we sleepwalked to a victory.
π₯SEMIFINALS - Missouri State - 15-13
Onto semis against a small, but very experienced Missouri State team. This was a breath of fresh air. Missouri state had ballers, understood a system, could make plays, and was tightly knit. Just what we needed to see. The first half was close with us breaking late to go up 8 - 7. In the early second half, Missouri State broke again. They held their lead until 13-12. Then we put out a bracket line of vets on d and broke them 3 straight times to win. The intensity rose this game. It was really important in my opinion, because it showed the team the fire that is necessary to play with to be a successful program. The palpable energy shift from the first game to this one felt worlds different.
π FINALS - SIU-E - 13-15
The finals were against the hometown team. SIU-E. They've built a program over the past few years and all play club in the summer. We beat them like 4 times last year, so they were hungry. And it's their hometown, so they were ready. We got the first half lead and carried it into the second half, going up 6 to 9(nice). After that though, SIUE chipped away. They successfully managed to steal a win 15 to 13 over us. They called very tight lines and pushed us. We called open lines up to our last point. We made an intentional plan to not 'sell our development' for a meaningless fall win. Everybody got around 5 points in the final, and got the reps to get better. Our marks were exposed this game, and we will be in the lab working on being much better at that going forward.
Some shoutouts:
CJ - unstoppable in the deep space all weekend
Nano- looking much improved and huge pulls
Cougar - got a big d that changed the tide against Missouri state
Blake - rookie who is coming up fast, threw a great backhand break score, caught a layout score for a big break, and got a layout d on an under cut
Danny D - first layout D of his career on his first point of the weekend. Hype
Cigs - get to know the name, looking to be a d line dawg going forward.
Thanks for reading Mama?s Nation! I love each one of you.
