"If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together."

Hey, !

As you know, one of our highly generous alumni offered to match every dollar donated to IMUF between now and December 31—up to $4,500. That means every donation we receive until then is DOUBLED!

Right now, our total comes out to $9,814! We are so close to meeting our $15,000 total. In honor of our stride toward the finish line, we wanted to highlight two alumni donors, who continue to give back year over year: Drew Shepherd and Kyle Cox.

We asked both of them a series of questions about why they choose to donate. Read their answers here:

What inspires you to donate?

SHEPHERD: I believe in the IMUF's mission. And the vision of a fund which will eventually spin off an annual operating budget from its yields alone.

COX: Personally, I remember not being able to always pay my dues in a timely manner. Luckily my parents were extremely supportive of me playing Ultimate but I know others aren't so fortunate. Being able to keep players focused on their education and ultimate without needing to worry about the money required to play is an awesome thing.

What motivates you to keep donating year after year?

SHEPHERD: "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." Truthfully I only donate the recommended $100 every year. And Alumni Weekend costs me more than that just keeping up with Cox at the bars. I am not donating a saintly amount. But I like the imagery of 100 to 150 alumni all pitching in $100 each. We were teammates once, and in this way still can be. Working toward the mission, together.

COX: I feel like of all the things I get asked to donate to, being able to contribute back into a program that created lifelong memories and friends is always going to be a priority.

Why should more people donate? What would you say to convince someone to give?

SHEPHERD: On some level we all know this -- the impact of our fundraising is not keeping dollars in the Mama?s pockets, it is about giving them more experience and more time together (the things we cherish more with age). We have all witnessed work schedules force a teammate to miss a tournament, miss regular practices, or quit altogether. A dues-free experience is not enough to solve a college kid's need to work. But maybe, in some cases it gives us more time with our teammates.

Kyle and Katie looking nice.

COX: I would just always love to remind people of the times when they were on the team while they were discovering becoming a person and what they enjoyed. Being able to focus on academics and ultimate without having to work to be able to do all of those things is the dream. I worked my entire time at IU to have money for jerseys, cleats, travel and it would have been incredible to be able to not have to worry about those things while being in school.
