Year in School: Senior
Random Fact: Iβm a bit of a nerd in that I love word games. I play a lot of scrabble and I play the new york times spelling bee every morning. I also make origami and I have a bunch of it hanging from the ceiling in my room.
Who are you and why did you decide to lead the team?
Iβm just a really competitive person who loves to learn and get good at random things that I find cool. I started playing ultimate when I got to IU and within two weeks I bought a stack of 20 discs and started throwing every single day into a soccer net. I have an absurd amount of videos of me throwing, cutting, lifting, laying out, and everything else you can imagine that Iβve used to analyze my form and get better.
I was a captain last year and honestly I just really love ultimate and I love hanging out with this team. Regardless of what happens this year I want to come back in the future and know that Iβve made an impact on the team.
What are your on-the-field expectations for the team?
We lost a lot of main players last year but I think weβve got a lot of great young talent. The team is definitely going to be good in years to come. Iβm also convinced that weβre gonna surprise a lot of teams with how well we do this year.
What do you think the team can improve on?
On the field weβve got a lot of plans to make our o-line better than it was last year. Weβre starting up bi-weekly o line meetings before the alumni scrimmage and will be doing them the whole year. Off the field weβre looking to involve our b team more than we have before and hopefully keep those guys engaged as the year progresses.
What will the culture of the team look like?
The culture is really being dictated by the juniors right now and Iβm loving what theyβre doing. Weβve had a lot of thursday night parties this year as well as wednesday night game nights. It seems like this is a tighter knit team than a lot of the previous mamas teams iβve been a part of.
What are you most excited for?
Iβm most excited for our o-line meetings and getting to see how much progress we can make over the course of a whole year. I feel like Iβve finally gotten to a point where I can see and understand the game more easily. Iβve been o line for a while now, but in the past I was focused on making myself better, now Iβm focused on using what I know to make our o line and the team as a whole better. |

Year in School: Senior
Random Fact: I can do circus stuff; plate spin, globe walk. etc.
Who are you and why did you decide to lead the team?
My name is Aidan Ball and Iβm an Animal Behavior major. I decided to lead the team because it was very important for me to give back to the team after the community it gave me.
What are your on-the-field expectations for the team?
I expect us to be back in the game to go and I refuse to entertain other possibilities.
What do you think the team can improve on?
We lost a lot of important seniors, so I would love for us to have new leaders emerge on the team.
What will the culture of the team look like?
It will be culture of uplifting and loving your teammates. We donβt ask you to like everybody, but this is the people youβll be around all year, so we expect mutual respect.
What are you most excited for?
Iβm excited to see how the team evolves with so many mainstays gone, and how the rookies and older players fill those gaps. |
